Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff described their car as “undriveable” and said that Lewis Hamilton “deserves better from us”

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff described their car as “undriveable” and said that Lewis Hamilton “deserves better from us” after the seven-time world champion could only finish 13th in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Wolff apologised to Hamilton on team radio at the end of the race. Team-mate George Russell did manage to finish fourth after a superb start.

Hamilton said it was a “weekend to forget” and that he “just wasn’t fast enough to overtake” at Imola. To add insult to injury, he was lapped by race winner Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. He also reiterated that he was no longer fighting for the drivers’ title, saying: “I am out of the championship, for sure. There’s no question about that.” Hamilton said the one bonus for the team was fellow Briton Russell’s climb through the field after starting 11th – although he apologised for not also getting into the points.

“Everyone is feeling it and everyone is head down, trying their best,” he added. “There’s no-one that’s giving up and everyone is just trying to move forward as fast as they can.”  Formula 1 heads to the United States next for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix, from 6-8 May.

Delhi Capitals’ Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur Sanctioned; Pravin Amre Gets 1-Match Ban For IPL Code Of Conduct Breach

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined 100 per cent of his match-fee for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s game against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, an official release stated on Saturday. Pant admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. Pant’s teammate and all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been fined 50 percent of his match-fee for breaching the Code of Conduct.

Thakur admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

Pravin Amre, assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, has also been fined 100 percent of his match-fee for breaching the Code of Conduct. He also faces a one-match ban for the offence. Amre admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

In the final over of the match on Friday, Delhi Capitals needed 36 runs to win chasing 223. On the third delivery of the over, Rajasthan pacer Obed McCoy bowled a full-toss and Rovman Powell dispatched it for a six. However, the Delhi Capitals camp thought that it was a no-ball and the players started gesturing from the dugout. Soon after that Pant was seen gesticulating towards the two batters – Powell and Kuldeep Yadav – to come off the field. Amre then stepped on to the field to talk to the on-field umpire Nitin Menon.

When Amre was talking to Menon, Rajasthan Royals batter Jos Buttler walked towards the Delhi Capitals dugout to have a word with Pant. In the end, Rajasthan Royals won the match against Delhi Capitals by 15 runs. Earlier, Jos Buttler smashed his third ton of the ongoing season to help RR post 222/2 in 20 overs.

Relegation or Promotion for Burnley?

Burnley face Southampton at Turf Moor on Thursday night (7.45pm) live on Sky Sports.
Having fired their coach, the team is being managed by Under-23s manager Mike Jackson acting as interim manager with Burnley in 18th place with seven games left.
The big question that everyone is asking is, Can Burnley win this game to avoid relegation?
The former Preston North End and Bury defender is adamant Burnley can stay up.

“Yes, definitely. I believe it. You have got to. I have seen enough in the group. I know this group had been there before. I have seen the reaction and the response, how they all came together the other day. Those signs are good. I see bits in the play where they are starting to think, this is possible. I think there is enough in this group.”
The funs of course want the team to keep climbing the division. They all have eyes on a top ten position.
The only chance they have now is in the last six games to climb positions or to lose positions and this is the goal now. There is no time for looking for who can get a chance, it should be a very clear message for everybody that the best XI should play and they get the chance to play.

Arsenal aim for all 3 points in crucial London derby

Coming off the back of a different run of results in their weekend matchups, Chelsea and Arsenal prepare for battle in Wednesday’s Premier League London derby at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in their FA Cup semi-final over the weekend, while Mikel Arteta’s side had an unwelcome and relatively shocking loss to Southhampton, the defeat to the saints made it a third straight defeat in the league consequently knocking themselves off the top position for a top 4 finish. A much-improved performance will be required if the gunners are to stir up any hopes of a top 4 finish. The London derby makes for a great game as the blues will also be looking to turn an otherwise gloomy atmosphere into a brighter more positive overall feeling and a derby win tonight could do just that. Erik ten Hag: What can Man Utd expect if they appoint Ajax boss as their new manager

Erik ten Hag was never really one of those people who made it clear he had massive ambitions to be one of the world’s top coaches. He is a very humble man and a modest coach.

That has a lot to do with his background. He comes from the east of the Netherlands where there’s a very down-to-earth mentality and where people speak with a very strong accent. They are a bit less flash there and they look up to those from Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, the places where the big offices, industry and the country’s parliament are.

But despite that background – and he does have a strong accent – Ten Hag’s situation is different. Financially there is no motivation and no need to go for the big jobs at any stage in his career because he comes from a very rich family, and his father and brothers are multi-millionaires. They own a real estate company and other financial firms.

His father wanted him to go into that company but from a young age Erik was such a brilliant footballer – he was a star for FC Twente as a defender – that he made it clear he had no interest in pursuing that line of work.

However, that family wealth means he doesn’t need the big jobs. He knows he doesn’t need football to survive so he can follow his own principles, where other managers might compromise to stay in their jobs.
